ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 - Readme

About the Program

ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 belongs to the new generation of ABBYY’s data capture solutions. It provides efficient and accurate extraction of data from forms and documents for subsequent export into databases and business systems.

FlexiCapture 10 has two different installation types:

• Standalone
• Distributed

The type of installation should be selected during the installation of the product. For each type of installation a different serial number is required.

Software and hardware requirements

Hardware requirements

1. Intel® Core™2/2 Quad/Pentium®/Celeron®/Xeon™, AMD K6/Turion™/Athlon™/Duron™/Sempron™ 2
2. Intel® Core™2/2 Quad/Pentium®/Celeron®/Xeon™/Core™ i5/Core™ i7, AMD K6/Turion™/Athlon™/Duron™/Sempron™ 2 GHz processor or faster. The use of processor which has 2 or more cores is recommended for Application Server
3. RAM
   • Scanning, remote Verification and Data Verification stations: 1GB
   • Other stations: 512 MB RAM for each CPU core, but no less than 1 GB
   • Servers: 2GB and 2 GB if MS SQL Server is installed on the same machine
4. Hard disk space
   • Remote Verification and Data Verification stations: 100 MB
   • Other stations: 1 GB
   • Servers: 100 MB for applications, 2 GB for database (when using Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition). Additional space is required if the file storage is used.
5. TWAIN, WIA or ISIS scanner
6. An active Internet connection to activate your serial number, USB port for hardware protection key
7. At least 1024×768 video card and monitor
8. Keyboard, mouse, or other pointing device

Software requirements

Servers:

1. Operating system:
   • Windows Server 2003 SP2
   • Windows Server 2008 SP2
   • Windows Server 2008 R2

   If you use a localized interface, you operating system must support the corresponding language.

2. Internet Information Server 6, 7 or 7.5 (for Application Server)

   In case of IIS 7 or higher, the following components of IIS should be installed:

Stations

1. Operating system:
   • Windows XP SP3
   • Windows Vista SP2
   • Windows 7
   • Windows Server 2003 SP2
   • Windows Server 2008 SP2 or R2 + Desktop Experience

   If you use a localized interface, you operating system must support the corresponding language.

   The use of the Arial Unicode MS font is recommended. Other fonts may display CJK characters incorrectly.

3. Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or later for Monitoring Station and ClickOnce deployment of Scanning Station
4. SilverLight 4.0.60129 or later and one of the following browsers for Web Data Verification Station:

   • Google Chrome 8.0 or later
   • Safari 5.0 or later

The servers and stations except web- and remote stations must be in the same Active Directory.

Installing the Program

IMPORTANT!

• It is recommended that you close all other applications before installing the program.
• You must have local administrator rights to be able to install the program.

To install ABBYY FlexiCapture 10:

1. Place the ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 DVD-ROM into the DVD-ROM drive.
2. In the Autorun menu, select installation type: Standalone or Distributed and follow the instructions of the installation wizard. (If Autorun is disabled on your computer, double-click the autorun.exe file located on the DVD-ROM).

Standalone installation:

1. Select a setup language (either English or Russian). The installation wizard will compare the locale of your system and the selected language. If the languages are incompatible, a warning message will be displayed.
2. Next, the installation wizard will check the version of your operating system and the availability of the administrative rights. If the version of the operating system is not supported by the program or you do not have the administrative rights, a warning message will displayed and the installation wizard will be closed.
3. If all the checks are successfully passed, the end-user license agreement will be displayed. Read the license agreement carefully and, if you agree with the terms of the agreement, select the corresponding option and click Next.
4. A dialog box will open, in which you will need to enter some information about yourself. Enter the required information and continue with the installation.
5. In the next dialog box that opens, select one of the available installation modes:
   • Administrator and Operator Stations – The Administrator station, the Operator Station, FormDesigner 10 and FlexiLayoutStudio10 will be installed.
   • Administrator Station – The Administrator Station, FormDesigner 10 and FlexiLayout Studio 10 will be installed.
   • Operator Station – Only the Operator Station will be installed. (The Administrator Station, FormDesigner 10 and FlexiLayout Studio 10 will not be installed.)
6. Next, select a destination folder. If there is not enough space on the selected hard disk, a window will be displayed showing your hard disks, the available free space, and the space required for installation. Select a disk with sufficient free space and continue with the installation.
7. The program files will be copied onto your computer. Once the installation is finished, the installation wizard will display a message saying that the application has been successfully installed.
8. FlexiCapture 10 License Manager will be launched automatically so that you can activate your copy of the application. Enter your serial number and activate the application.

Distributed Installation:

The whole installation for the distributed version has two parts:

• Servers installation
• Workstations installation

The servers installation consists of the following components:

1. Application server + Administration and Monitoring Console (Web application);
2. Web Stations;
3. Licensing server;
4. Processing server.

Workstations installation (client part) consists of:

1. Project Setup Station;
2. Scanning Station;
3. Verification Station;
4. Data Verification Station;
5. Processing Station;
6. FlexiLayout Studio;
7. FormDesigner.

Recommended Installation Order

1. Install all components required for installation (NetFramework, IIS, CrystalReports, SQL Server)
2. Install servers (The servers can be installed either on one computer or on different ones; by default they will be installed on one computer)
3. Install workstations. During installation you will need to indicate a path to the License Server.

Each component may be installed on a separate computer. To do it, disable the rest of the components.

Note: For more details on the installation process and preliminary settings of the operation system, please refer to "System Administrator's Guide".

Note: It is not recommended to install the Processing Station on the computer where ABBYY FlexiCapture servers are installed. Such an installation is appropriate only when installing the program for demonstration purposes.

During installation of Application Server it is possible to install a special administrative image of the workstations installer. This installer supports distributed installation scenarios: by SMS or AD.

Workstations installation can be done using this image or common installation from the DVD. In the latter case the License Server location must be specified.

Remote Stations Installers

Independent installers are available for the remote stations. You can also install Scanning Station using ClickOnce Deployment technology on the Administration and Monitoring Console.

Web Stations

If Web Stations were installed with the Application Server, operators can open the stations using the following paths in browser:

• http://<Application_Server>/Capture - to open Web Capture Station where <Application_Server> is the name of the computer on which the Application Server is installed
• http://<Application_Server>/Scanning - to open Web Scanning Station
• http://<Application_Server>/DataVerification - to open Web Data Verification Station

If the Web Stations Authentication Module subfeature was selected when installing Web Stations, you can use a single path for login to Web-station and registration of the operators: http://<Application_Server>/Login.

Running the Program

To run ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 Standalone:

• Go to Start>Programs>ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 and select Administrator Station or Operator Station.

To run ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 Distributed:

• To run Processing Server or Administrator and Monitoring Console, go to Start>Programs>ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 Servers and select Processing Server or Administrator and Monitoring Console.
• To run workstations: go to Start>Programs>ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 Stations and select the station.

Demo projects

To see how ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 works, you can use demonstration projects that can be found in  %allusersprofile%\Application Data\ABBYY\FlexiCapture\10.0\Samples.

Under Microsoft Windows Vista or Microsoft Windows 7, the sample projects can be found in %public%\ABBYY\FlexiCapture\10.0\Samples.
